CHRISTIANE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!

As a subscriber to this newsletter, it was probably hard to NOT notice the New Media Lounge in Copenhagen this month. New media art curator Christiane Paul gave a talk in a totally packed room at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. The following discussions dealt primarily with the practicalities and problems related to dealing with new media art in art institutions. Thanks to Christiane for an inspirational session! By participating in the organization of these types of talks, we hope we can help start some activities in our region - especially at the relevant institutions. The organizing group behind the New Media Lounges consists of Artnode, CAVI and Artificial. The main initiative for the New Media Lounges is taken by New Media Forum ( http://www.newmediaforum.dk ). We will be organizing more lounges in the fall, so stay tuned!

In this issue of our newsletter we have some real treats for you. Make sure you check out our 2 brand new interviews:

KIDS WORKING WITH ART HISTORY THROUGH DIGITAL ART - AN INTERVIEW WITH NICOLAS CLAUSS
In the creation of the project Art if I Want, the French digital artist Nicolas Clauss explored how an artist can use digital art as a catalyst to let youngsters deal with art history in a hands-on manner. Thomas Petersen interviewed Nicolas about the process and practicalities of the project as well as about his personal working process. Perhaps this can be an inspiration for art institutions to learn new ways of teaching art history to youngsters. http://www.artificial.dk/articles/clauss.htm

NET.WORKS:

http://www.artificial.dk/networks
This is our catalogue of computer based art we can recommend. You'll find net art, software art, classics, and a continuously updated list of new pieces. This week we have two recommendations. A recent piece and a classic:

ONE WORD MOVIE
As many other pieces, this one by Swiss artists Beat Brogle & Philippe Zimmermann is fueled by real time Google searches. This particular piece distinguishes itself by its simplicity and clarity. Type one word and this piece will generate a hypnotic sequence of images in interwoven loops. A personal favorite is 'Antichrist'. http://www.onewordmovie.ch

WWWWWWWWW.JODI.ORG
A truly classic net.art piece from Belgian/Dutch artist duo Jodi. If you were starting to feel like the internet was a warm and familiar space, then let Jodi show you what the aesthetics of computer errors are all about. http://wwwwwwwww.jodi.org

EXTRA:

BOMB ANATOMY
Here's a link to a war commentary based on the idea of 'Even though it seems like you have a choice, you really don't. And by the way, it's all going to hell anyway.'

For reference here are two similar pieces previously featured on Artificial:

ALIENS
The best thing to do is absolutely nothing: http://entropy8zuper.org/airport/folder/aliens.swf

SEPTEMBER 12TH
The paradox of the war on terrorism boiled down into a single scene: http://www.newsgaming.com/games/index12.htm
