HAPPY DECEMBER 1ST!
For a long time, we have been looking forward to the launch of our new special. Over the next month we will put focus on Art Games. Commercial games are thriving, here in Scandinavia they have even been put on the political agenda, when the Nordic Council recently announced it's support for computer games.
At Artificial we like games, and we love to see when the playfulness of the games meets the thought and aesthetics of the fine arts. Lean back and enjoy a December of Art Games!
This was the month where our list of subscribers passed 500. We are extremely happy to have you out there. Keep sending us info - and let us know if you have suggestions on how to make Artificial better.
From all of us to all of you: Happy December!

Jon Ippolito will soon publish his book At The Edge of Art (together with Joline Blais). In a recent interview he said: "We argue that the most creative work these days is coming out of scientific labs and online activism [...] The book is sure to piss off curators who assume Duchamp granted the power to define art to the white cube's gatekeepers. But if Duchamp could be reincarnated [...] I like to think he would have a good laugh at their expense."

The Norwegian initiatives TEKS and PNEK that earlier this months were in danger of ceasing to exist have now been put into the Norwegian state budget. Way to go! Congrats from here.

NET.WORKS:

This is our catalogue of computer based art we can recommend. You'll find net art, software art, classics, and a continuously updated list of new pieces. This week we have one recommendation:
ILLUSTRATED SPAM
Even though some of the text in this project is in Danish Language, it is quite easy for other people to understand. Lotte Skadborg Hansen/afnitp illustrates the patterns in the senders of spam mails - people called Elaine Fox, Miriam Fish, Eve Bird and the like. /KP

EXTRA:
Happy X-Mas - every day on your cell
Danish Artnode used to have a glorified tradition of having a advent calendar. Every day in December, you could check out a fresh piece of internet art. Now, they are truly embracing the new technologies and are launching an MMS calendar. 24 artists have made 24 pieces of cell phone art. To get it, you have to send a text message to 1231 saying 'julekunst'. It costs 14 Euro but 9 of them will be donated to Red Cross.
Unfortunately, this service is available in Denmark only. The advent calendar is created by Sebastian Campion, a long time contributor to artificial.dk.
